Types of Childcare

There are many childcare options available including private, community and local authority nurseries, pre-schools and out-of school groups.

To find out what is available in your area, contact your local education authority's Early Years Service, or ask Social Services for a list of approved registered childcare providers.

Playgroups, day nurseries, childminders, private nursery schools and out of school schemes for children under eight must be registered to confirm that they meet the standards set by the local authority. Always make sure that any day care is registered before you decide to accept a place for your child.
