Launch at Urdd Eisteddfod- May 29th, 2006

At this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod, the team launched a Bi-lingual Peer Mentoring Pack. The pack was developed by The Mentoring and Befriending Foundation and permission was granted to translate and adapt the programme to a Welsh context. The launch was conducted by Meri Huws, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales Bangor and Chair of The Welsh Language Board. This project was the brainchild of Dr Dafydd Arthur Jones, a much missed friend and colleague who sadly died earlier this year. The pack was launched in his memory.

Graduation Evenings

A number of prestigious graduation evenings have taken place in North Wales recently where year 7 pupils were awarded for participating in an Aspirational Mentoring Activity at their schools. As part of this project, undergraduates from the University of Wales, Bangor and NEWI mentored year 7 pupils. These activities took place in order to lift the children’s hopes for the future and to give them an overview of what university life consists of.

The presentation evening was held as a celebration and recognition of the students of tomorrow- this activity is the children’s first steps on the road that leads them towards Further and Higher Education.
