Introduction to Educational Guidance

What is the course about?

It's about developing effective guidance skills and support networks for learners and includes:
¨ The guidance process
¨ The role of the guidance worker
¨ Developing guidance networks
¨ Adult learning

Who is the course for?

It's for people who get asked by learners or potential learners for educational advice and guidance. Lots of people get asked for information about learning, including librarians, youth and community workers and college admissions tutors.

Whatever job you do, this course will give you the knowledge and skills you will need to give the best advice and guidance to learners in your community.

What type of course is it?

It's a very flexible part time course and so is suitable even if you work full time (it can even be tailored to suit the kind of work you do*). You might be able to complete the course in one week, but usually it is run over a longer period - typically one 3 hour session per week for 10 weeks. You will be mainly assessed on your course work, which will include practical exercises, individual and group work.
The course complements the NVQ Level 3 in Careers Guidance offering supporting knowledge and theory, and you could gain credits at Higher Education Level 1

*Subject to sufficient numbers
